Empty Bottle Chicago Engagement Session: Sam and Dave

Sam and Dave intrigued me when they mentioned their non-traditional wedding plans that include bridesmaids with beehive hairdos!  This super sweet couple used to live in Chicago and love seeing live music and having Sunday brunch at The Empty Bottle.  It was only perfect to meet there for the start of our Chicago engagement session, have brunch and some Bloody Marys (hey, it was Sunday!) and take some fun photographs!  A special thank you to the staff of The Empty Bottle for being so accommodating and allowing us to photograph at their beautiful bar and fun photo booth after the brunch crowd had quieted down.

I honestly loved documenting Sam and Dave!  While my portrait sessions are moment-driven and not heavily posed, Dave did all the work for me.  All I needed to do was my job.  Put these two in a great location, and watch the sparks fly!  Dave knew just how to make Sam laugh out loud, as they are simply effortless together.   We ventured to Chicago’s Logan Square, and found a fantastic mural after shopping at their favorite comic book store.  We visited a park bench in the square they used to frequent together, and I asked them to lie underneath the bench while I stood on it, using the dappled sunlight, a little fill flash, and a lovely green hue as our background.  Which, considering it was early Sunday afternoon, meant we could eliminate all the other people in the park from our photograph!

Meeting couples who have so much in common is such a treat for me, and, considering these two had been up all night visiting friends while in town, they were absolute troopers to document!
